Our primal nature is an overarching component of a striving, balanced human psyche. Not a dark, forbidding force to be feared, although it can be that. It has been expressed in countless philosophies around the world. The Zen concept of “original nature”, for instance. Freud’s Eros and Thanatos, e.g., life and death, as well.

This project refers to all of the above. Beginning with some of the very first expressions of an artistic urge, whatever their function may have been, and including a mathematical “ribbon” or ”arabesque” symbolizing a hopeful “golden” future characterized by rationally informed higher emotions and a sense of responsibility equal to our desire for freedom.
